GS Professors All Geared Up for Research

The Graduate School opens SY 2011-2012 with professors gearing toward conducting research. With Dr. Noreen E. Pontillas of CUREXO-IDS leading the group, the professors attended the seminar on Problem Conceptualization last July 9, 2011 with Prof. Noel Alegre as the resource person and facilitator. This is just one part of a series of seminars that will be conducted under the Graduate School Research Training Program. This training program is a refresher program given the high level of research skills among the Graduate School Faculty. Hence, the program serves as a road map for the faculty to conduct their researches within one school year, ensuring that quality outputs are produced. With the multidisciplinary nature of the Graduate School, this program provides a venue for the faculty to do interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects. GS Dean is the New President of CDGS

For the second time since the creation of the Council of Deans of Graduate Schools Region 10 in 2003, Dr. Francis Thaise A. Cimene, Dean of the Graduate School, was elected as the new President of the Council for school year 2011-2012. The election took place during the Council’s Organizational Meeting held last July 15, 2011 at Xavier University Board Room, Cagayan de Oro City.

GS Enrollment is Up by 55.2%

Enrollment Data for Graduate School, 1st Semester 2011-2012

The Graduate School enrollment posted an increase of 55.2% from 201 during the First Semester of SY 2010-11 to 312 this SY 2011-12. Of this number, the Doctor of Philosophy Program has the most number of enrollees (83) which constitutes 26.6% and followed by: MA in Education Major in Educational Administration with 75 students or 24.0%; Master in Business Management with 52 students or 16.7%; Doctor of Management with 34 students or 10.9%; MA in Guidance and Counseling with 21 students or 6.7%; MA in Education Major in English with 17 students or 5.5%; MA in Filipino with 16 students or 5.1%; Master in Public Service Management with 13 students or 4.2.%; and MA in Reading with 1 student or 0.3%. This is the highest enrollment the Graduate School ever had for the last ten years.

Graduate Professor Published in an International Journal

Dr. Martiniano Jake Neri, III, Professor of the Graduate School in collaboration with Prof. Adrian Ranido of the College of Computer Studies published their article on “Tracking Viral Contamination through User Habits and IT Practices in The Journal of Issues in Informing Science and Information Technology (Volume 8, 2011). Publication in an internationally recognized refereed journal is one of the most important qualifications considered to be able to teach in the Graduate School.

The Issues in Informing Science and Information Technology (IISIT) is an academically peer refereed Journal.  The purpose of IISIT is to encourage the sharing of knowledge and collaboration among the wide variety of fields that use information technology to inform clients. These areas include: Communications, Communicating Meaning, Community and Society, Computer Science, Data Communications, Distance Education, E-Commerce, Education, Government, Health Care, Medicine, History, Information Science & Library, Journalism, Justice and Law, Mathematics, Philosophical Issues, Psychology, Public Policy, Sociology, Technology, Working Together.

The articles in this publication provide insight into how best to inform clients using information technology and cover research in IT Education, such as Curriculum and Techniques for teaching IT.
